Welcome "Kai Warren Packard" to the World

Say Hello to
Kai Warren Packard!!!

Kai, which means "Sea" in Hawaiian and
Warren, which is after Lisa's Great Grandfather; was born April 23, 2008 at 2:17 p.m. in Sacramento, California.

Lisa's water broke early in the morning on the 23rd at 12:30am. It was not a gusher just a
trickle, so we stayed in bed, well I did, she k
ept getting up to go to the bathroom. Finally by 4:45 a.m. Lisa's motherly instinct kicked into high gear and she felt it was time to get a move on to the hospital. We called Andrea and David who live about 20 mins from us and told Dave to get dressed and come over to watch Levi. We arrived at the hospital around 6:00 a.m. and Lisa was admitted to her birthing suite. From there, Lisa was dilated at a 4 and received her epidural and started having off the chart contractions for about an hour. She was moving along very well until at about 10:30 a.m. she stopped dilating. She remained at a 6 until about 1:00 p.m. They started to give her a small amount of pitocin to make the contractions a little closer together and to have her dilate at a faster pace. During this time, Lisa's epidural, unfortunately, started to wear off and the gaining strength of her contractions made the pain worse. Lisa's nurse kept calling for her anesthesiologist however, at about 1:35 p.m., Lisa dilated from a 6 to a 10 in 35 minutes and her body was ready to deliver with or without the extra drugs for pain. After what seemed an eternity, Lisa delivered little Kai at 2:17 p.m. He looked great!! He was 8lbs 6.7 ounces and 19.5 inches long. Lisa is very sore and is not looking forward to the healing ahead. Here are some pictures that were taken right when he was born and also a couple that Levi took while he was here visiting.

Congratulations on your baby! Xander was 8 lbs. 7 oz. when he was born and the nurses didn't believe he was that big so they weighed him again. All the nurses would comment "What a big baby you have!" Do you get the same response?

Congratulations Lisa! I kind of randomly came across your blog but I'm glad I found it and that you are doing well. It's fun to see what old friends are up to. You have such a cute family!
